The Kansas Center for Athletic Medicine is the area's leading SportsMedicine prgram relied upon by athletes not only in Lawrence and surrounding communities, but also by athletes and coaches throughout the state. KCAM is sponsored jointly by two established and independent Lawrence providers of SportsMedicine & Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic Surgery Associates P.A. and TherapyWorks P.A.
Lawrence Orthopaedic Surgery Associates has been providing orthopedic
evaluation and surgery for The University of Kansas men's and women's
athletic programs for years and began KCAM in the fall of 1996 to better
provide these and even more services to athletes competing at all
In November of 1997 OSA was joined in the growth of KCAM by TherapyWorks, a rehabilition center with it's emphasis in orthopedic and sports rehabilition. Underscoring itself as a leader in sports rehabilitation and sports performance, TherapyWorks is the area's only licensed center for Body Balance for Performance for Golf. KCAM brings to athletes the clinical experience of 5 orthopedic surgeons, 5 physical therapists, 4 occupational therapist, including a certified hand therapist, and 7 certified athletic trainers.
KCAM has athletic trainers in place at Lawrence High, Lawrence Free
State High School, Baldwin High School, and Pleasant Ridge High
School. As part of it's close association with the University of
Kansas's sport science program, two of the orthopedic surgeons guest
lecture to athletic training students and the program places 12 student
trainers at it's high school sites.
Lawrence Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, PA also includes William Bailey MD, Richard Wendt MD and Neal Lintecum MD.
The Kansas Center for Athletic Medicine provides athletic trainers
to local schools including Lawrence High, Lawrence Free State, Baldwin,
Eudora High Schools and Bishop Seabury Academy. KCAM also provides
athletic trainers at Sport 2 Sport tournaments and is the Official
Medical Partner of the Sunflower State Games.
